Okay I haven't posted in ages, but I was just looking back at my previous entries and I noticed this in the "What does Katherine mean?" thingy.

"At times, you can be a little flaky and irresponsible. But for the important things, you pull it together.
You tend to be pretty tightly wound. It's easy to get you excited... which can be a good or bad thing.
You have a lot of enthusiasm, but it fades rather quickly. You don't stick with any one thing for very long.
You have the drive to accomplish a lot in a short amount of time. Your biggest problem is making sure you finish the projects you start."

And, yeah.... everything you need to know about me. That's it, right there. Along with the words "unfailingly optimistic" and the fact that I'm very difficult to truly stress out.

Hmmm... I should have posted my 101 things to do in 1001 days on the 17th October, but I'm too lazy. Oh, what was that about my biggest problem being making sure I finish the projects I start? Yep, that's it right there. I'll get round to it eventually though. Probably.

So Boris Johnston is now the Mayor of London. Good on him I say. Personally I don't really have a political affiliation, since I'm incredibly fickle and actually usually just want to unexpected to happen more than anything. Back when Labour first came to power I was all for it, they hadn't been in government for ages, the Conservatives were a mess and it was time for something nice and fresh. Now Labour have been in power for years and frankly it's all got a bit boring. Who cares what the policies are, let's have the Tories back! Or maybe it's time to give the Lib Dems a go, that would certainly be different, and it would certainly shock everyone. Now that would be interesting. Let's face it, politics can be dull a few surprises and a nice change every few years helps to keep everyone on their toes.

As for my local council, that's been full of stuffy old conservatives ever since I can remember. They've closed the public swimming baths (since swimming is actually compulsory for primary aged children I've no idea where they're planning to send them for lessons) they've wrecked the parks and made a mess of nearly everything they've touched. Although we do have a rather good rubbish collection system. Well done, points for everyone there. But it's got a little boring now. Let's have a shake-up next time eh, everyone. Time for some other party to get in. (Well one of the three major parties, let's not go crazy and certainly let's not turn racist) Sadly this constituancy is full of boring old rich people who aren't so rich they can afford to vote labour. This means they don't like change, which is why the Conservatives wipe the floor with the competition every time an election happens (at least half, if not two thirds of the total vote). Oddly enough most of the constituances around us are labour, because this is the north (although I was amused last time to find that Labour lost the Blackpool seat, that certainly added interest!) Frankly though the other parties do themselve no favours around here. The Conservative party take a great deal more interest around election time, they're always outside the polling station making a note of who turns up to vote and they're always lovely and friendly. One of them used to be a Guide leader back when I was a member and I feel bad hoping that they will lose just to shake everyone up a bit, but there you go.

So back to Boris. He's a bit of a fool sometimes, but he wouldn't have got to where he is today if he was actually stupid. No one can act that daft and be stupid at the same time and get into power (you can be one or the other but not both - George Bush, for example, until elected was stupid but seemed normal, after he was in power all bets were off). Also he might make some mistakes (see the Liverpool incident) but he instills confidence that if anyone came up to him and offered him a million pounds to (for example) hide the fact that they were pumping toxic waste into the Thames, he'd tell them where to stick it and then go on to announce the whole thing to the world's press. Incorruptible and slighly strange but with his heart basically in the right place. That's what you want from a politician. I look forward to seeing if it holds up in the real world.
12th-Apr-2008 08:51 pm - Noisy Bird!
Elf
There's just been the noisiest bird singing outside. It must have been in the garden, surely? It was that loud! I don't know why but it made me want to come write a post here so I guess that's a good thing. Weirdly it's nearly 9pm here and its dark outside so why it's singing now I'm not sure. Perhaps it's confused.

Anyway a lot has been happening recently so I'm going to start by telling you about my recent trip to Belfast....

Go here to see the story.

Also, Doctor Who is back on!!! I absolutely love that program and David Tennant is excellent as the Doctor, he has his manic brilliance down to a tee (plus he's rather nice to look at as well!)

I'm sorry, I know I haven't posted in ages. So much has been happening and I've got so much I want to post about but I never get round to writing about it.

It's been 11 weeks since I posted. I'm sorry Ellen, thank you for the poke though it's nice to know you were thinking about me :D I have been looking at your facebook profile and seeing what you've been up to in my time away from LJ so I've not forgotten you!

Also Candy!!!! You're back, I saw your update on Facebook. I must get my ass over to your LJ to ask you how the trip went :D

Hi to everyone else as well, I'll post some big updates soon enough so you can hear about what's been going on with me the past few weeks. Also I might go so far as to post some photos. (Shock! Horror!)
13th-Jan-2008 01:48 pm - Name Meaning
Elf
Well I think quite a lot of this is true, but some of it isn't at all. Actually it had a line about me being a 'type A' personality, which is just so far off the mark I had to delete it! For anyone who doesn't know (I had to look it up) a type A personality is a 'workaholic' type personality and the sort of person who gets wound up by little things and is very time consious. This is the exact opposite of my personality and also contridicts some of what the rest of this thing says anyway! Ah well, the accuracy of these things is all coincidence anyway :P

What Katherine Means

You are a seeker of knowledge, and you have learned many things in your life.
You are also a keeper of knowledge - meaning you don't spill secrets or spread gossip.
People sometimes think you're snobby or aloof, but you're just too deep in thought to pay attention to them.

You are usually the best at everything ... you strive for perfection.
You are confident and authoritative.

You are a seeker. You often find yourself restless - and you have a lot of questions about life.
You tend to travel often, to fairly random locations. You're most comfortable when you're far away from home.
You are quite passionate and easily tempted. Your impulses sometimes get you into trouble.

You are truly an original person. You have amazing ideas, and the power to carry them out.
Success comes rather easily for you... especially in business and academia.
Some people find you to be selfish and a bit overbearing. You're a strong person.

You are friendly, charming, and warm. You get along with almost everyone.
You work hard not to rock the boat. Your easy going attitude brings people together.
At times, you can be a little flaky and irresponsible.

Your biggest problem is making sure you finish the projects you start.

You are very intuitive and wise. You understand the world better than most people.
You also have a very active imagination. You often get carried away with your thoughts.
You are prone to a little paranoia and jealousy. You sometimes go overboard in interpreting signals.
10th-Jan-2008 05:58 pm - It's another new year!
Elf
I know, I know, I'm bad at updating. I've haven't written anything in ages!

I can't think of anything particular to say right now, except hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year!

Let's hope 2008 is the best year yet and that all our dreams come true :D
18th-Dec-2007 06:13 pm - Belfast!
Elf
I'm off to Belfast tomorrow to visit my friend. Very excited about this since this will only be the fourth time I have left England in my life! Also the flights are only 40 minutes long which is fabulous because I hate sitting down for long periods of time, so all in all I'm hoping it's going to be a good trip.

Only downside is I can only take hand luggage because they charge £10 to check in luggage!

I'm back Friday so maybe I'll let you all know how it went then :D

In the meantime I'm off out tonight for a meal with my friend (I had a meal out last night and will no doubt be having another whilst in Belfast. This is going to get expensive!)
8th-Dec-2007 03:00 pm - The English Weather
Elf
I believe the current state of the weather in England can be summed up thus:

Sun: Well it's getting quite late, I suppose I'll have to rise sometime even though I'm feeling really weak.

Thick grey clouds: *hang around feigning innocence*

Sun: *rises*

Darkness: *retreats*

Thick grey clouds: *cover entire sky* Mwahahaha we shall not let you shine. See how we block your light from reaching the earth. No light or warmth shall penetrate, only murky greyness shall be seen.

Sun: *shines pathetically*

Thick grey clouds: *throw rain at earth with unnecessary vigour* Mwahahaha, we shall show no mercy!

Wind: *blows enthusiastically* See how I whip the rain into swirly patterns! Feel how wet and cold it is as I blow it in your face!

Sun: *cowers* I can't take much more of this. I must leave!

Thick grey clouds: *rain harder in celebration*

Sun: *starts to set*

Wind: *howls loudly in triumph*

Thick grey clouds: *rain more* We win, we win again! Mwahahaha!

Sun: *sets and disappears*

Darkness: *descends*

Humans: WTF? I'm sure there used to be this magical and hallowed thing known as daylight. It happened in the day. Why has it forsaken us?! Why?! :(
4th-Dec-2007 10:37 pm - Sign Language
Elf
Yesterday I went to sign language class and we had to sign "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dogs" in time to a metronome to practise our finger spelling (one letter per beat). She set it going and we all started and I didn't think I'd done it very well because I got lost in the middle but when we got to the end the teacher told me and another girl (the youngest in the class and the one I speak to most) to go and sit to one side and practise doing some other sentences on our own. She's really good at finger spelling too so obviously the teacher thought we didn't need to practise it again :D The rest of the class did it to a slower beat whilst we were having a giggle signing the sentences she had given us on strips of paper (They were bizzare sentnces used as typing exercises). I was very proud XD

For your enjoyment here is an example sentence we signed:

"The jam was made with exotic fruits like quince, guava and pomegranate and Mary ate it with zeal."

One of us finger spelt it out whilst the other tried to get the words they were signing. Let's just say quince isn't a word you expect to come up in a sentence at all so you sit there looking slightly confused whilst the other person laughs (understandingly) at your inability to get it.
21st-Nov-2007 10:31 pm - Stars!
Elf
I'm posting three times in one day too, Candy, what's going on? XP

What's all this stuff about sex!? Still at least it's good stuff about sex.

"Always happy. Loud. Talkative. Outgoing. Understanding."

That's me :D (At least all my good bits) I've always found that I match up almost perfectly to how Geminis are supposed to be. I don't read or pay attention to daily stars and horoscopes but I have to admit that personality descriptions for Geminis match my personality very well.
